Q: What is one of your weaknesses, and how are you working to improve it?

A: “One of my weaknesses is procrastination. It’s something that I developed in college because I had so much stuff to do. Now as a teacher, I have a lot of stuff to do as well. To improve on this, I am starting to write stuff down and make an agenda for myself. It’s something that I started to do in college, and ever since then it has started to get a little bit better as I go on.”

Q: What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?

A: “I am a musician. I play drums and I am a part of a band. We’re not working to get big by any means, but we’re working to pursue that and see what we can get out of it. That’s pretty much the only thing I do outside of this classroom.”

Q: List five adjectives that describe yourself.

A: “Honest, devoted, perfectionist, respectful, friendly.”

Q: What is one of your weaknesses, and how are you working to improve it?

A: “I am a perfectionist. Therefore, I tend to spend a little too much time on projects or tasks. However, I’ve come to a good balance by setting up a system of task lists to ensure everything is done in a timely manner.”

Q: Why did you decide to teach at SLHS?

A: “I love teaching and wanted to teach where my step kids are located. I heard positive words about South Laurel.”

Q: Describe yourself.

A: “I am passionate about teaching. I am always positive and well organized. I enjoy everything I do and always try to learn from others.”

Q: When did you decide to become a teacher, and why did you choose this field?

A: *strokes beard* “I decided when I was a kid. It was honestly probably third or fourth grade because I would come home to my grandparents and for whatever reason, I didn’t think they knew what I knew coming home from school, you know two plus two equals four and all that stuff. I would teach and they would sit there and listen and I would give them worksheets and tests. As a kid, I don’t know why, I always just wanted to teach. Any opportunity I could, I would. At that age, I had a lot of teachers who helped me and influenced me. My teachers had a big impact on my life and I want to have that same impact on someone else’s.”

Q: What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?

A: “I like movies, I watch a lot of movies. I like to fish, which it’s getting kind of cold for that now. I like to camp. I like to go horseback riding. I’m pretty simple.”

Q: How would you describe yourself in 5 words?

A: “Laid back, eager to learn.”

Q: What is your favorite part of being a teacher at SLHS, so far?

A: “I love the way I have been welcomed here by my colleagues and students. When we talk about the ‘South Laurel Family,’ it is not just a saying. There is a sense of belonging that I felt as soon as I came.”

Q: Why did you decide to work at SLHS?

A: “There are 3 reasons: it was an opportunity to be closer to my family who lives in Bell County, being from Southeastern Kentucky it felt like a great fit, and I was able to join the football coaching staff and be a part of the program being built here.”

*Not pictured but so very welcome at Our House is Mr. Smith, another Spanish teacher!
